An angel at Night

This one is based on a true incident that took place during one of my annual trips to Mangaluru as a 9th Grade Student. After a late-night marriage of a distant relative, me and my family were stranded on the road. The poem best explains what happened next. From that night onwards I seriously started believing in divine providence…

An angel at Night

A marriage that took place late,

Put us in a story state.

As out of the hall we gush,

On the street we rushed,

Who knew what would we meet?

If it was one thing we knew,

When nothing was new,

In god we trust,

And pray, for we must.

The night was dark,

And in the nest was

The last lark,

But we on the street,

Hoped not,

Our nemesis meet.

For,

In a precarious situation,

Were we caught.

As our hopes grew shallow,

Then indeed we saw a hallow,

A scooter’s light flickered yellow,

Flash!!!

Was it a spectre?

Or

Was he there for our better?

Was he a fiend?

Or

Was he a friend?

Our hope was not in vain,

The scooter did stop,

Removed was our pain,

Our hearts gave a small pop,

As the scooter indeed, did stop.

The man saw our trouble,

And was enough, humble.

He sent us a rickshaw

From somewhere.

We were filled with awe,

When the rickshaw

Appear out of nowhere.

The Rickshaw dropped us to our nest,

And that was the situation, best.

Today I am wise,

So I realise,

That night,

When we had lost all our might,

Our angel was in sight.
